Applications
Violaxanthin is a natural xanthophyll pigment used as a colorant in cosmetics and personal care products, and it is also incorporated as a pigment additive in coatings, inks, and polymer materials to impart stable yellow–orange coloration; in addition, it may be applied in food-contact materials and, where permitted by regulation, in food and feed formulations as a natural colorant. It can contribute antioxidant functionality in formulated products, and it is sometimes evaluated as an intermediate or starting material in carotenoid synthesis; all applications are subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
