  • Applications

Triethylamine (TEA, CAS 121-44-8) is a versatile organic base used industrially and in laboratories as an acid scavenger and catalyst for alkylation, acylation, esterification, polyurethane and epoxy polymerizations, a neutralizing agent in paints, inks and water treatment, a gas-scrubbing reagent for HCl and CO₂, a selective solvent for resins, dyes and pesticides, an extractant in pharmaceutical processing, a blowing agent precursor for foundry sand binders, an intermediate for quaternary ammonium salts, surfactants, rubber accelerators, fuel and lubricant additives, photographic chemicals, a mobile-phase modifier in high-performance liquid chromatography, and generally as a pH regulator and corrosion inhibitor across many industrial operations.
