Applications
Triethyl citrate (CAS 77-93-0) is an odorless, clear citrate ester widely applied as a biocompatible plasticizer in pharmaceuticals (film coatings, sustained-release tablets, soft-gel capsules), as food additive E1505 in chewing gum, flavors and beverages, as a solvent for nitrocellulose in nail lacquers and printing inks, as foam stabilizer in dry fire extinguishers and aerosols, as fragrance fixative in perfumes and cosmetics, as viscosity-reducing agent in biodegradable polymers like PLA/PHA, as excipient in microencapsulation processes, and as a compatibilizer/plasticizer for PVC, CA and PVAc, improving flexibility, gloss and the overall biodegradability of finished materials.
