Applications
Tricetylmonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium salt that functions primarily as a highly hydrophobic cationic surfactant. In industry it is used as a surfactant and conditioner in household cleaners, industrial coatings, and textile finishing formulations, providing wetting, emulsification, and dispersion. In cosmetics and personal care it serves as a conditioning and thickening agent in shampoos, conditioners, and skin-care emulsions. In polymer and coatings manufacturing it acts as an emulsifier and stabilizer for latex and pigment dispersions and can be employed as a processing aid or phase-transfer catalyst in certain organic syntheses. It is also used as an intermediate for preparing other quaternary ammonium surfactants and related specialty additives. Its use is formulation- and regulatory-dependent; performance depends on local regulations and formulation limits.
