Applications
Tri-n-dodecylamine (CAS 102-87-4) is primarily used as a synthetic intermediate to prepare quaternary ammonium salts, i.e., cationic surfactants and phase-transfer catalysts, which find applications in detergents, coatings, and polymerization processes. It also serves as a precursor or additive in the manufacture of cationic surfactants used in cleaners and coating formulations, and as a processing aid to improve emulsification and surface wetting. In lubricant and lubricant-additive formulations, it can function as a base amine component that contributes to lubricity and dispersion stability. It can act as an emulsifier or processing aid in polymer and latex formulations, supporting stable dispersions during polymerization. In cosmetics/personal care, it may be used as a precursor to conditioning agents or surfactants after quaternization. In coatings and inks, it may be used as a surfactant or leveling agent to improve flow and surface properties.
