  • Applications

The compound trans-2,6,6-Trimethyl-2-vinyl-5-acetoxytetrahydropyran (CAS 56469-40-0) is used mainly as a flavor-fragrance intermediate and pro-fragrance precursor (the acetate can hydrolyze to release scent), to fine-tune fruity-floral-herbal notes in perfumes, personal care and home care; as a stereodefined terpene building block for assembling norisoprenoid/ionone frameworks; and as a versatile synthetic handle (vinyl for radical additions, thiol-ene, olefin metathesis/co-polymerization; acetate for deprotection to the alcohol followed by oxidation, etherification or ester diversification), as well as a reference standard and model substrate in asymmetric catalysis and method development.
