Applications
2-Methoxythiophenol (CAS 7217-59-6) is a sulfur-containing phenolic intermediate employed in pharmaceutical synthesis (construction of benzothiazole, benzimidazole backbones and protected-thiol APIs), as a precursor for herbicides, fungicides and plant-growth regulators, as a flavor additive imparting the characteristic “sulfur-roasted” note to coffee, cocoa and grilled-meat aromas, as a coupling agent for metal surface modification or thiol attachment onto gold and silver, in the preparation of Au-S nanoparticles, as a heat-resistant polymer stabilizer and epoxy cross-linker, and as a derivatization reagent in GC/LC analytical chemistry to enhance the detection sensitivity of halogenated aromatics.
