Applications
Tetradecenol (CAS 28982-37-8) is an unsaturated C14 fatty alcohol, typically a viscous liquid, used primarily as an intermediate to produce ethoxylated/sulfated surfactants for household and I&I cleaners; as an emulsifier, wetting and penetration aid in agrochemical formulations; as an emollient and co-emulsifier in personal care and cosmetics; as a precursor to esters (e.g., tetradecenyl acetates) employed in fragrances and, notably, insect pheromone systems for mating disruption; as a lubricant and metalworking additive that enhances boundary lubrication, reduces friction, and forms protective films; as a dispersion/wetting aid in paints, inks, and coatings for solventborne and waterborne systems; and as a versatile chemical building block—its double bond enables selective transformations (hydrogenation to tetradecanol, epoxidation, hydroformylation to higher aldehydes/alcohols)—while offering good biodegradability for applications with environmental performance requirements.
