Applications
Terpin (CAS 80-53-5) is a monoterpene with a characteristic herbal–woody odor, widely used in fragrance and personal-care (perfumes, soaps, detergents, deodorizers) as a primary odorant and aroma modifier; in food and beverages as a flavoring agent within regulatory limits; in pharmaceuticals and health-care products to mask API taste and, in some legacy formulations, as an excipient supporting expectoration; it also serves as a versatile intermediate for synthesizing terpene derivatives (esters, oxides, glycols), a mild bio-based solvent for paints, inks, and coatings, a scent carrier in candles and air-care diffusers, a sensorial additive for household cleaners, an adjuvant for spreading/wetting in agro applications and for odor control in industrial processing, and is used in R&D as a reference material as well as in natural aroma and aromatherapy products due to its pleasant scent.
