Applications
Stearyl triethoxysilane (CAS 7399-00-0) is a long-chain alkoxysilane used primarily as a silane coupling agent and surface modifier. It is applied to inorganic substrates (glass, silica, metals, ceramics) to impart hydrophobicity and to improve adhesion of coatings and paints; in polymers and composites it acts as a coupling and compatibilizing agent to enhance dispersion of inorganic fillers and adhesion to the polymer matrix; in coatings and inks it serves as a hydrophobic additive and a hydrolyzable crosslinking precursor in sol–gel systems; it can function as an intermediate precursor for siloxane-based surface modifiers and coatings; and it may be used in electronics-related coatings to improve moisture resistance and durability.
