Applications
Sodium trimetaphosphate is widely used as a sequestrant and chelating agent to bind polyvalent metal ions, helping prevent scale and precipitation in diverse formulations. It functions as a water-conditioning additive in detergents and cleaners, and as a processing aid in textiles and paper by dispersing pigments and preventing aggregation of particles. Additionally, it acts as a crosslinking agent for starches used in adhesives and paper coatings, and serves as a stabilizer and dispersant in coatings and inks. In ceramics and glass manufacturing, it can serve as a deflocculant and a binder precursor in slips and glazes. These uses are subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
