    Sodium Sorbate (CAS 7757-81-5) is primarily used as a preservative to inhibit mold, yeast, and bacterial growth in a variety of products. In the food industry it is added to dairy products, fruit preparations, beverages, bakery items and sauces to extend shelf life. In cosmetics and personal care, it provides preservation for water-containing formulations such as creams, lotions, shampoos and cleansers. In pharmaceutical formulations, it is used as a preservative in certain topical and oral products to maintain microbial stability within permitted regulatory limits. It is also encountered in some household cleaning and other consumer formulations as a preservative, under local regulations and formulation constraints.
