Applications
Sodium Salicylate (CAS 54-21-7) is the sodium salt of salicylic acid and is primarily used as an intermediate in the synthesis of salicylates and salicylate esters; it can also serve as a source of salicylic acid for pharmaceutical synthesis. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used as a precursor or salt form for producing salicylate derivatives. In cosmetics and personal care, it can act as a pH buffering agent and a solubilizer for phenolic actives. In cleaning and household formulations, sodium salicylate is used as a buffering and solubilizing additive to improve processing and compatibility of active ingredients. It may also be used as a starting material in polymer or coatings-related applications where salicylate functionality is desired, depending on formulation and regulatory constraints.
