  • Applications

Sodium ethoxide (CAS 141-52-6) is a strong base and alkoxide source used in organic synthesis. It is commonly employed to deprotonate substrates and generate enolates for carbon–carbon bond-forming reactions. In industrial contexts, it serves as a catalyst/base in the transesterification of triglycerides with ethanol to produce fatty ethyl esters (biodiesel). It is also used in Williamson ether synthesis to prepare alkyl ethers by SN2 reactions of ethoxide with appropriate alkyl halides. Additionally, sodium ethoxide is used as a base in pharmaceutical synthesis and for preparing key intermediates in industrial sequences.
