  • Applications

Silver (CAS 7440-22-4) is widely used across electronics and electrical applications as a conductive material, including silver pastes for printed circuits, conductive inks for flexible electronics, and plated contacts or solder substitutes; it also plays a key role in photovoltaic manufacturing as a paste component for solar cells and in conductive polymer composites and adhesives. Silver coatings provide reflective finishes, corrosion resistance, and antimicrobial surfaces in coatings and inks. In industrial chemistry, supported silver catalysts enable selective oxidation processes (for example, ethylene to ethylene oxide) and other oxidation reactions. Its antimicrobial properties enable engineered coatings for consumer products, textiles, medical devices, and water-treatment components to reduce microbial growth. Historically, silver halides were used in photographic materials, and silver-containing compounds still influence specialized imaging and archival applications.
