  • Applications

Propionaldehyde, CAS 123-38-6, is a colorless pungent liquid that functions mainly as a versatile aldehyde intermediate for manufacturing propionic acid, n-propyl alcohol, 2-ethylhexanol, trimethylolpropane used in alkyd and polyester resins, plasticizers, synthetic lubricants, rubber additives, urethane and acrylic polymers, flavor and fragrance ingredients, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, disinfectants, pharmaceutical precursors, specialty solvents formed via acetalization, and also acts as a calibration or reference compound in analytical chemistry and gas chromatography.
