    Pristanic acid (CAS 1189-37-3) is a branched-chain fatty acid used primarily as a chemical feedstock and intermediate in the synthesis of specialty esters, lubricants, and plasticizers. In industrial manufacturing it serves as a precursor for branched emollients and lubricant components and for plasticizer applications. In cosmetics and personal care, it is used as a fatty emollient ingredient and as a precursor to conditioning esters. In polymers and plastics, it provides raw material for branched fatty-acid derivatives that act as polymer additives or processing aids. In coatings and inks, it can be used as a feedstock for surfactants and formulation additives. It may also appear in some household cleaning products as a fatty-acid component in surfactants.
