    Potassium tert-butoxide (CAS 865-47-4) is a strong, non-nucleophilic base widely used in organic synthesis to generate enolates and carbanions for carbon–carbon bond formation, enabling alkylations, condensations, and various rearrangements. It also serves as an initiator for anionic polymerization, supporting living polymerization of styrene, dienes, and acrylates to produce well-defined polymers and block copolymers. In addition, it can deprotonate alcohols to form alkoxide nucleophiles for Williamson ether synthesis, and it is commonly employed in pharmaceutical and fine-chemical manufacturing as a general base in multiple synthetic steps. In industrial settings, it is used in coatings, inks, and adhesive formulations where strong basic conditions are required; its use is subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
