Applications
Potassium ferricyanide (CAS 13746-66-2) is a mild oxidant and a redox mediator used across a range of industrial and analytical applications. In analytical chemistry, it is often employed as a gentle oxidant for redox reactions and in redox titrations, as well as to oxidize sulfites to sulfates. In electrochemical sensing and biosensing, ferricyanide acts as a redox mediator to shuttle electrons from enzymes (for example, glucose oxidase) to an electrode. In organic synthesis and photoredox chemistry, it serves as an oxidant in photocatalytic reactions and other oxidation processes to improve efficiency and sustainability. In coatings and inks, ferricyanide is used as a mild oxidant or redox indicator for certain colorimetric sensing systems.
