Applications
Poly(oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), alpha-(3,5-dimethyl-1-(2-methylpropyl)hexyl)-omega-hydroxy-, CAS 60828-78-6 is a telechelic polyether diol with a bulky hydrophobic alkyl terminus. In practice it is used as a polyol component or chain extender in polyurethane formulations for coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomer systems, where the hydrophobic end can influence hardness, compatibility and water resistance. It also serves as a nonionic surfactant or emulsifier in cosmetics and personal care, as well as in household cleaners, due to its polyether hydrophilic block and hydrophobic tail. As a processing additive it can improve wetting, flow and leveling in polymer formulations and coatings, and may function as a lubricant or viscosity modifier in plastics processing and ink formulations. Depending on the formulation, it may be employed as a specialty plasticizer or surface-active modifier within polymer and coating systems.
