Applications
Piperonyl Butoxide is widely used as a pesticide synergist that enhances the efficacy of pyrethrin and pyrethroid insecticides by inhibiting insect cytochrome P450–mediated detoxification. In practice, it is formulated with pyrethroids for agricultural crop protection, incorporated into household and garden pest-control products (aerosols, sprays, and bait formulations), and included in veterinary pest-control products for companion animals to combat fleas and ticks. It is also encountered in some public health vector-control formulations to improve performance against disease vectors, within allowable regulatory limits. As an additive, it extends the active insecticide’s effective life rather than acting as a stand-alone insecticide.
