Applications
Pentadecaenoic acid (C15:1, CAS 26444-04-2) is an odd-chain monounsaturated fatty acid used widely as an analytical standard in lipidomics and GC–MS profiling of odd-chain fatty acids, as an intermediate to synthesize tailored esters, amides and specialty surfactants, a building block for self-assembled materials and hydrophobic coatings, and a model substrate for studies of lipid metabolism (beta-oxidation, desaturase/elongase specificity) and membrane biophysics; it also serves as a precursor for flavor/fragrance esters and low–pour-point biolubricant additives, is applied in isotope/isomer tracing of lipid origins in food matrices, used as internal/external calibration standards, and provides a chemical scaffold to generate derivatives for bioactivity screening (e.g., antibacterial, antioxidant or signaling-modulating) subject to application-specific safety and regulatory requirements.
