  • Applications

Nopol (CAS 128-50-7) is a bicyclic monoterpenic alcohol (C10H18O) with a fresh woody-citrus odour reminiscent of pine and lily-of-the-valley, widely employed in fine fragrances, deodorants, scented candles and household cleaners; it also serves as a versatile precursor for nopyl acetate, nopyl propionate, Ambrox, Alsofin and similar high-value ingredients via oxidation, esterification and allylic rearrangement of its secondary hydroxyl group, thus finding uses in food flavourings, food-contact packaging and biodegradable polymer research; its moderate volatility, thermal stability, ready biodegradability and low toxicity justify its popularity in cosmetics, detergents and its use as a reference standard in analytical studies of volatile organic compounds.
