Applications
Myrtenyl acetate (CAS 1079-01-2) is a bicyclic monoterpene ester with a fresh pine, minty, camphoraceous, and slightly fruity–herbal scent, used primarily as a fragrance ingredient in fine perfumery (cologne, fougère, chypre, woody, citrus, mint, conifer, eucalyptus, green accords) to add lift, freshness, and diffusion and to bridge citrus top notes with resinous–woody facets; it is widely employed in soaps, body washes, shampoos, shaving products, cleaners, fabric softeners, deodorants, air care sprays/gels, and candles due to its moderate-to-good substantivity and relative stability in alkaline, bleaching, and heated systems; technically it functions as a base-odor masker and a pine–mint note booster/modifier, enabling cost optimization when combined with linalool, linalyl acetate, terpinyl acetate, eucalyptol, citronellol, and C10–C12 aldehydes; it is occasionally used at trace levels in flavorings to suggest pine–mint–resin–citrus nuances in confectionery, chewing gum, beverages, and liqueurs, where permitted and within safety limits (consult IFRA/other relevant standards and local regulations); it occurs naturally in some Myrtaceae and Pinaceae essential oils; formulators should verify solvent compatibility, pH tolerance, and sensory stability in the target matrix.
