Applications
Molybdenum disulfide (CAS 1317-33-5) is widely used as a solid lubricant and anti-wear additive in industrial lubricants, oils, greases, and metalworking fluids to reduce friction and wear; it is also incorporated as a coating or ink additive to provide low-friction, wear-resistant surfaces. In polymers and plastics, MoS2 is used as a reinforcing filler to improve mechanical performance and abrasion resistance in composites. In electronics, MoS2 is explored as a 2D material for emerging semiconductor devices, sensors, and lubricating layers in microdevices. Additionally, it functions as a catalyst or catalyst support in hydrodesulfurization and related petrochemical processes. Applications are subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
