Applications
Methyltrichlorosilane, CAS 75-79-6, is a chlorosilane widely used as a key building block in silicone polymer chemistry. It serves as a precursor to methyl-substituted siloxanes, enabling the production of silicone oils, resins, and elastomers via controlled hydrolysis and polycondensation. It is also used as a feedstock to prepare organosilane intermediates for coatings, adhesives, and surface treatments on glass, ceramics, and metals to improve adhesion and impart hydrophobic or moisture-barrier properties. In sol-gel processing, it participates in forming methylated silica networks used in coatings and optics. It is a common intermediary for making organosilane coupling agents for coatings, inks, and adhesives, and is used in electronics-related encapsulation or conformal coating formulations via silicone chemistries.
