Applications
Methylscopolamine Nitrate (CAS 6106-46-3) is a quaternary ammonium antimuscarinic agent used primarily as an active pharmaceutical ingredient to produce peripheral anticholinergic effects. It is employed to reduce gastric and intestinal secretions and to relieve smooth-muscle spasm, supporting formulation and administration of GI-targeted drugs; it can be used as a perioperative antispasmodic to limit secretions and cramping, and as a salt form that aids formulation stability and handling. In addition, it is used as a pharmacology research tool to study peripheral muscarinic receptors and receptor-mediated processes in preclinical work. Its use is subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
