  • Applications

MTBE (CAS 1634-04-4) is widely used as a gasoline oxygenate and octane booster to reduce emissions; as a relatively polar ether, it serves as an industrial solvent for coatings, inks, and adhesives; it is also employed as an extraction solvent for natural products, such as essential oils and fragrance components; and as a chemical intermediate, MTBE can be hydrolyzed to yield methanol and tert-butanol, supporting the production of tert-butyl alcohol derivatives.
