Applications
Methyl methacrylate (MMA, CAS 80-62-6) is the primary monomer for manufacturing poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) – commercially known as Plexiglas, Lucite or acrylic glass – and is also widely used in automotive and anti-corrosion coatings, printing inks, adhesives, sealants, fiberglass-reinforced composites, orthopedic bone cement, denture bases and dental fillings, plastic dispersions, impact modifiers for PVC, film-forming agents in cosmetics, optical fibers, LED light diffusers, traffic safety signs, solar panels, electrical and electronic housings, medical devices, and interior or exterior automotive parts thanks to its high transparency, light weight, weather resistance, impact strength and ability to polymerize rapidly under heat or UV initiation.
