Applications
Methyl gallate (CAS 99-24-1) is primarily used as an antioxidant and stabilizer in a range of industrial formulations, functioning to inhibit oxidative degradation in polymers, coatings and inks, as well as lubricants. It also serves as a chemical intermediate for the synthesis of gallic-acid-derived compounds, supporting routes to pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and other specialty chemicals. In cosmetics and personal care, methyl gallate is evaluated as an antioxidant and preservative-like additive to help protect formulations from oxidation and spoilage. In cleaning and household products, it can act as a stabilizer/antioxidant to extend product shelf life. Additionally, it is studied and employed as an intermediate in pharmaceutical and agrochemical syntheses based on gallic acid derivatives.
