Applications
Chemical name: Methyl 2-methyl-3-mercaptopropionate; CAS number: 4131-76-4. Methyl 2-methyl-3-mercaptopropionate may be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of sulfur-containing esters and thioethers; it can serve as a reactive thiol-containing monomer precursor for thiol-ene and thiol-Michael polymerizations, enabling crosslinking and hardening in coatings, inks, and adhesives; owing to the mercapto and ester functionality, it can also act as a building block in pharmaceutical synthesis; in addition, its thiol-related odor potential makes it a candidate fragrance ingredient or fragrance precursor in perfumery; and with suitable processing it can function as a ligand for metal surfaces or electronic-related surface modification.
