  • Applications

Manganous oxide (CAS 1344-43-0) serves as a chemical intermediate and a source of Mn2+ in the synthesis of manganese salts used in metallurgy and chemical manufacturing. It is employed as a deoxidizer and alloying additive in steelmaking and other metallurgical processes, helping control oxygen levels and improve machinability. In ceramics and glassmaking, MnO functions as a colorant and glaze component, contributing brown to green hues depending on firing conditions. It also acts as a catalyst or catalyst precursor in selective oxidation and reduction steps in chemical processing. Additionally, MnO can be used in the production of manganese-containing ferrites and other advanced materials, and may be evaluated as a stabilizer or dopant in certain polymers and coatings. Subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
