  • Applications

Manganese dioxide (CAS 1313-13-9) is widely used as a catalyst for the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide and as a depolarizer in zinc-carbon and alkaline batteries, where it helps control the redox reactions at the cathode. It also serves as a selective oxidant in organic synthesis, notably for the oxidation of allylic and benzylic alcohols to aldehydes or ketones. In glass and ceramics, it functions as a pigment and color modifier and can act as a decolorizing agent to balance impurities in the glass melt. Additionally, MnO2 is used as an active electrode material in energy storage devices, including alkaline batteries, Zn-MnO2 cells, and some supercapacitors, contributing to charge storage and redox activity.
