Applications
Chemical name: Manganese; CAS number: 7439-96-5. Manganese is primarily used as an alloying element in steel and other metals to improve hardness, strength and wear resistance, and as a deoxidizer and desulfurizer in steelmaking. It is also a source for manganese compounds used in fertilizers (agriculture) and as pigments and colorants for ceramics and glass. In industry, manganese oxides and salts are employed as catalysts or catalyst supports in various chemical processes and environmental applications. It is also the precursor to manganese dioxide, a material widely used as a depolarizer in batteries.
