  • Applications

Magnesium (CAS 7439-95-4) is widely used as a lightweight structural alloying element in automotive, aerospace, and electronics housings, helping reduce weight while maintaining strength and stiffness; it also serves as a strong reducing agent and a key precursor for Grignard reagents in industrial organic synthesis; in metallurgy it is used to deoxidize and desulfurize steel and nonferrous alloys and as an alloying additive to improve machinability and mechanical properties; magnesium oxide (MgO) derived from Mg serves as a refractory material for ceramics and kiln linings; and magnesium metal is employed in pyrotechnics and specialty light-emitting applications for bright white illumination.
