Applications
Limonene-1,2-diol (CAS 1946-00-5) is a bio-based terpene diol widely used as a functional building block in synthesis and materials: as an intermediate convertible to esters/diesters, cyclic carbonates, diacrylates or epoxidized derivatives to make monomers and oligomers for coatings, adhesives, printing inks and UV-cured systems; as a chain extender or bio-polyol in polyurethanes and polyesters to enhance durability, adhesion and hydrophobicity; as a precursor to nonionic surfactants via ethoxylation/esterification for detergent, ink, paint and agrochemical formulations; as a green co-solvent/additive with a mild citrus note that boosts resin solvency and aids industrial cleaning; as a fragrance–flavor intermediate and terpene precursor for cosmetics and personal care (subject to local regulations); and as a chiral building block and stereochemical reference in catalyst development/advanced organic synthesis, as well as a surface-functionalization agent for cellulose, silica or biopolymers to improve phase compatibility.
