  • Applications

Chemical name Laurolactam, CAS 947-04-6, is primarily used as a monomer precursor for polyamide-12 (PA12) and related polymers. It is polymerized to produce engineering thermoplastics with excellent chemical resistance and low moisture uptake, finding widespread use in automotive hoses, tubing, and fuel lines; it is also used to manufacture electrical insulation and protective cabling for electronics and automotive applications; PA12 powders derived from laurolactam are used as feedstock for selective laser sintering (SLS) 3D printing and other powder-bed processes; the material is additionally employed in coatings, adhesives, and specialty polymers where enhanced barrier properties are beneficial.
