  • Applications

Lanthanum chloride (LaCl3) CAS number: 10099-58-8 is widely used as a precursor for lanthanum-based materials and catalysts, enabling the synthesis of La-containing oxides such as La2O3 and specialty ceramics. It also serves as a Lewis acid catalyst or reagent in organic synthesis and polymerization processes. In electronics and optics, it is a starting material for scintillator and phosphor materials and for La-doped glasses and coatings that require La3+. The salt is employed in hydrometallurgical work as a reagent for the separation and purification of rare-earth elements and, in water treatment, can be used to precipitate phosphates as LaPO4. Its role is thus as a versatile chemical reagent for materials, catalysis, scintillation/phosphor applications, and environmental/rare-earth processing, subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
