Applications
Laminaran is a beta-glucan polysaccharide derived from brown algae that is used as a thickener and stabilizer in foods and beverages, and as a source of soluble dietary fiber added to formulations; in cosmetics and personal care it serves as a thickener, humectant and film-forming agent, improving viscosity, stabilizing emulsions and skin feel; in coatings, inks and other waterborne industrial formulations it can act as a binder and thickener to enhance viscosity and formulation stability; in household cleaning and care products it functions as a thickener and stabilizer, aiding dispersion and uniformity of the formulation; in agriculture, laminaran is studied as a plant defense elicitor and may be used as a biostimulant in certain spray formulations to support growth and resilience of crops.
