  • Applications

Isoshyobunone (CAS 21698-46-4) is a sesquiterpene ketone found in essential oils of Acorus species, applied mainly as: a perfumery ingredient with warm woody–herbal, slightly amber nuances and good substantivity for boosting, modulating, and fixing accords in fine fragrances, personal-care and home-care scents; a reference standard in analytical chemistry for GC–MS/LC method development, essential-oil fingerprinting, and authentication of Acorus-containing botanicals and oils; a model odorant in sensory testing and structure–odor relationship studies; a target in in-vitro bioactivity screening (e.g., antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory) and plant–insect interaction assays involving plant volatiles; and a scaffold for the synthesis and derivatization of sesquiterpene aroma chemicals in R&D, not intended for therapeutic use or direct consumption.
