Applications
Isopropyl palmitate (IPP, CAS 142-91-6) is the ester of isopropanol and palmitic acid that enjoys broad acceptance in personal-care products because it leaves a silky, dry, fast-spreading feel on the skin, so it is widely employed as an emollient, fragrance carrier and skin-penetration enhancer in creams, lotions, lipsticks, foundations, sunscreens and makeup removers; in pharmaceuticals it functions as a solubilizing excipient for poorly soluble actives, boosts dermal bioavailability and acts as a low-friction vehicle in soft-gel formulations; industrially it serves as a biolubricant, mold-release agent, cold-flex additive for PVC, printing-ink solvent, and oily carrier in pesticide emulsions and polishes, taking advantage of its oxidative stability, low volatility and favorable eco-tox profile; IPP also helps control viscosity, prevents sedimentation and imparts surface gloss while remaining odorless, non-sensitizing and compliant with FDA, EU and ASEAN Cosmetic Directive requirements, fitting modern demands for environmentally benign, high-performance ingredients.
