  • Applications

Isopropyl alcohol (IPA, isopropanol, CAS 67-63-0) is a volatile organic solvent with broad applications in healthcare, industry and everyday life: as a disinfectant it is formulated at 70-90 % to sanitize hands, wounds and medical surfaces; as a solvent it dissolves resins, greases, inks and paints for printing, coatings, adhesives and cleaners; its fast evaporation and residue-free nature make it ideal for cleaning electronic components, screens and lenses; in cosmetics, perfumes and hair sprays it acts as a fragrance carrier and antimicrobial agent; in pharmaceuticals it is used to precipitate and purify antibiotics and hormones; in fuels it serves as a water-drying additive and antifreeze for aviation fuel systems; IPA also functions as a reaction medium, extraction solvent, freezing-point depressant and defoamer in various manufacturing processes.
