  • Applications

Iron oxide (Fe3O4), CAS 1317-61-9, is widely used as a black pigment in coatings and plastics, delivering color and opacity while acting as a magnetic filler in composite systems. It also serves as a magnetic material for cores in electronics, data storage, and electromagnetic interference shielding. Fe3O4 is used in ferrofluids and magnetorheological (MR) fluids for damping and tunable rheology under magnetic fields. It functions as a catalyst support or active phase in various chemical syntheses and oxidation processes. In environmental and materials processing, magnetic separation and adsorption enable removal of contaminants from water streams. In polymer composites, Fe3O4 particles impart magnetic properties to coatings, inks, and other formulations.
