Applications
Hydrofluoric Acid (CAS 7664-39-3) is used in glass processing for etching and frosting, enabling decorative and architectural applications; in electronics, it etches silicon dioxide and removes oxide layers during wafer fabrication; for metal finishing, it serves as a highly effective pickling and surface-cleaning agent to remove oxides from stainless steel and aluminum; in inorganic fluoride production, it is a key reagent for making fluoride compounds such as aluminum fluoride and other fluorides used in metal smelting and specialty chemicals; and as a fluorinating reagent in organic synthesis, it is used to introduce fluoride into certain organic substrates and to prepare fluorinated intermediates.
