Applications
Hexamethyldisiloxane (CAS 107-46-0) is commonly used as a volatile solvent and carrier for fragrance and cosmetic formulations; it also serves as an organosilicon intermediate in the synthesis of siloxane resins and specialty coatings. It acts as a precursor for silicon-oxide (SiOx) thin films and protective coatings in electronics and photonics via plasma-enhanced or chemical vapor deposition. In coatings and inks, it functions as a processing aid to improve flow, uniformity and drying, while contributing hydrophobic properties. It is also employed as a cleaning solvent for electronics manufacturing to remove organic residues from surfaces prior to subsequent processing.
