Applications
Guanidine hydrochloride is widely used as a chaotropic denaturant in biochemistry and molecular biology, enabling protein unfolding and solubilization and supporting workflows such as protein purification and nucleic acid extraction. It also serves as a synthetic building block and intermediate for preparing guanidine-containing compounds in pharmaceutical and specialty chemical manufacturing, and can act as a reagent in organic synthesis to introduce guanidinium functionality. In materials-related applications, it may be used as a precursor for guanidinium-containing polymers and coatings, subject to formulation limits and local regulations.
