  • Applications

Guaiol (CAS 489-86-1) is a sesquiterpenoid alcohol with a woody, floral, pine-like aroma found in guaiac wood, cypress/pine oils and certain Cannabis chemotypes; it is used as a fragrance ingredient in perfumes, candles, deodorizers and personal-care products; as a natural flavor modifier imparting woody notes at trace levels in beverages and confections; as a matrix component and odor harmonizer in essential-oil and herbal preparations; as a reference standard for GC–MS/HPLC in quality control of essential oils, botanicals and cannabis terpene profiling; as a scaffold and starting material for synthesizing sesquiterpene derivatives and for bioactivity research; as a preservation aid due to reported antimicrobial and antioxidant properties; as a repellent/insecticidal component in biopesticide formulations at suitable concentrations; and as a chemotaxonomic marker for source tracing, while pharmacological activities (anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anticancer, anxiolytic, antimicrobial) remain primarily preclinical and are explored as research avenues rather than approved therapeutic uses.
