  • Applications

Gamma-curcumene (CAS 28976-68-3) is a sesquiterpene hydrocarbon found in turmeric and other Zingiberaceae essential oils, used mainly as a natural flavor and fragrance ingredient for its warm, spicy–woody note in perfumes, cosmetics, and personal care, and as a food flavoring where permitted; it is also employed in R&D as a GC–MS reference/chemotaxonomic marker for essential-oil quality control and botanical authentication, and is being investigated for bioactivities (antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory) and for insect-repellent/insecticidal potential of γ‑curcumene‑rich oils to develop natural preservatives and biopesticide formulations, while direct therapeutic use remains largely preclinical and must comply with fragrance/food-safety regulations, and with purity, dosage, and oxidation-stability controls.
