Applications
Gamma-Amorphene (γ-amorphene, CAS 6980-46-7) is a natural sesquiterpene hydrocarbon found at trace levels in many plant essential oils, used mainly in four areas: (1) as a supporting note in flavor and fragrance formulations to add woody, resinous, and herbal nuances and enhance depth in terpene blends, typically as an accent rather than a dominant odorant; (2) as a reference standard in GC-MS/GC-FID for identification, quantification, and fingerprinting of essential oils, enabling quality control, origin verification, adulteration detection, and comparison across cultivars, regions, harvests, and extraction processes; (3) in biology, agriculture, and chemical ecology as a plant volatile for studying plant–insect/microbe signaling, screening stress responses, and testing semiochemical blends for pest monitoring; (4) in biotechnology and synthesis as a product marker of sesquiterpene synthases and a substrate for derivatization to sesquiterpenoids, and as a tracer/calibration compound in studies of biogenic VOC emissions and atmospheric modeling.
