Applications
Forskolin (CAS 66575-29-9) is a natural diterpene isolated from Coleus forskohlii; in pharmaceutical research and molecular biology, it is used as a biochemical tool to stimulate adenylyl cyclase and raise cAMP levels in cellular assays. In addition, forskolin-containing extracts are used as dietary supplements (Coleus forskohlii extract) in nutraceutical products. Forskolin also serves as an analytical reference standard for quantifying it in botanical extracts by HPLC. In cosmetics and personal care, it may be included as an active ingredient in certain formulations; industrially, forskolin can be used as a natural starting material or intermediate for synthesis of related diterpenoids.
